February 2nd - 5th

Feb 2nd,
This is our street vendor, where we go for dinner. Omelette, noodles and veg for 65cents! Think our stomachs have enough bacteria in them to survive some street cooking.
Rented out a motorbike and headed out to Ubub on the eastern side of the island. Got lost quite a few times and eventually ended up in Kramitan on the western side! Miles from where we thought we were going! Traffic is crazy here, and lots of one way roads diverting traffice away from town centers. Headed down to the beach, and sneaked into this beach front resort. Not quite brave enough to laze out on the beds.

Swimming pool looks nice! Drove around to the entrance of this place, the rooms are $700 per night and they were booked out. We could stay at Tune hotel for 233 nights!! The beach outside the resort were still black sand ( which looks like mud ) and had trash on it.

Stopped at a local stand for gas. They use empty cola bottels etc.. Gas is only 20c litre. But as tourists we get charged different prices, but not worth arguing as it's so cheap.

Lots of paddi fields, with women working along men. Once rice is harvested, the field is burnt and then irrigated. New shoots are planted in a small corner, then transplanted to a larger field. While we were driving along, you could hear the people laughing and joking as they were working. It's hard work in this heat (38c) but they were enjoying each other. After I took this photo, the two people standing started waving and dancing! Tried to take another photo but missed the action.

Stopped at a market, for banana fritters. Noticed that children work in the family stalls, as well as the elderly. Everyone contributes.

The market place.

This man is selling pigs ( hard to see each one in the baskets). He was driving along the street shouting out. One shop owner hailed him down and wanted two!! I've never seen pigs for sale like this!

Driving back, we're amongst the hoardes of cyclists. Not sure how many times we went around this roundabout. Eventually made it back to the beach for " Happy Hour"!!

Beautiful sunset to end the day.

Wed 3rd,
Went to Carrefour ( huge french supermarket through out Asia) before we returned out bikes. Then walked along the beach to Kuta. Outside almost all the shops are offerings to the gods, which are put out daily. Incense is lit and the offerings are mostly petals, quite colorful to look at. Spotted this one with an offering of a cigarette!!

Looks like they are doing something about the trash. Noticed that most of the sweepers were sweeping it into small piles along the beach, which was then brought out to sea with the tide.! I think more of an effort is made in the busy season ( Apr-Oct)
Next few days spent walking and just hanging out.
