March 11th

Thursday
Today we decided to follow a path, through the forest, to Fishermans Village. This is one of the secluded beaches we walked through. Lovely walk as it took you up into the forest, then out through a few beaches. As it rained this morning and the day was cloudy, it was a good hiking day.
Even though it was cloudy, it was still 32c, with high humidity. We both were soaking wet after only 30 mins walking.
Found this huge CAT, which was responsible for making the path way. Watched the guys go off to lunch, then decided to jump in to see what it was like.

Made it to the village, in 1 1/2 hrs. These are the fishermans homes. The path leads out to the dock, which has a few restaurants, and a couple of resorts.

Chicken eating coconuts, secret recipe for coconut chicken curry!!
Had lunch at the village, then decided to take another path back to Long beach ( opposite side of the island to our beach). Shop owner told us that it was quicker to go to Long beach, than to go back to Coral beach. Couldn't find the path that she was talking about, so we followed a dirt track up the mountain. Dark clouds were now covering the sky, and the waves were crashing into the shore. Looks like another storms coming. It was now 2.30pm.
Found a concrete path and followed that for about 15 mins but it just came to an abrupt end at a tiny beach!!!!!!! So we headed back to the dirt path.
Jungle floor is covered with these huge ants. They're almost an inch long- bet they're really destructive. Easy to flick off your feet though!
Dirt path has now turned into a rock path, and as we both have flip-flops on, we struggled to climb up the hill. It's now about 4pm and starting to rain. We obviously are not on the correct pathway, but at least we're going in the right direction.
Rock path, has now become jungle -like!! We had to keep stopping to clean the mud of our flip flops! Getting a bit concerned about being in the middle of the jungle, not knowing where we're going, and worried that those monkeys will return to attack us again!! The growth was getting higher and higher, and we kept checking each other for leeches and such! Too far into the walk to go back!
After 2 hrs, we saw Long beach through the trees, at least we had a focal point-happy again! Saw some cabins in the distance , and made our way to them. WILL NOT try that again!!! The waves at Long beach were huge, but that didn't stop Derek jumping in to wash off and cool down. All the boats from this side of the island, have been moved to our side, as we're sheltered in a bay.
Walked across to our beach, and the tide was in, very high. This is our regular restaurant, hope the tide recedes before dinner time! Not much beach left dry to sit on, so most people at our resort were sitting in the restaurant, watching the waves. Boat leaving the island has been cancelled for the afternoon as it's too rough for the crossing. Quite an adventurous day!!!
