March 5th

Wout ( pilot for Chiang Mai) sent us this photo that he took while we were flying over the temple in Pai. You can see the flooded padi fields in the right upper side, and the established rice fields on the upper left.
Friday
Went down to breakfast and watched a large muslim family taking a swim. Everyone swims with all their clothes on, as wearing a swimsuit would be too revealing. Walking around with damp, sandy clothes sounds very uncomfortable.
On our way back to our cabin, we saw all these monkeys (20) of them all over the balconies and roof tops. They ran away as we approached them, but when I stood on our balcony and tried to take a photo, the Alpha male came running at me baring his teeth. We both ran into the cabin, and tried for 30 mins to come out, but the large monkey kept running at us everytime we opened the door! As there is no phone in the room, we were stuck! I picked up the sweeping broom and tried to shout and wave it at him, but this only made him more angry. He and a few others were even jumping onto the window frame and were staring through the windows. This really freaked me out, as I was sure they could break the glass and come in. As we were peeking out the door we saw some other people walking up the stairs, and looking over to see what all the noise was about. As they came closer, the monkeys started to retreat. We grabbed out towels and swimsuits and left the cabin. We told the owner and he said that there is a band of monkeys living behind our cabins ( It is a tropical forest !!!!) the babies are fine but don't go near the Alpha.--- too late, I've ticked the Alpha off. Apparently, they are very dangerous!!!
We sat on the beach for the day, and made our wary way back to the cabin about 6pm. No sigh of the monkeys, but we did sleep with the windows closed, which made for a very hot and stuffy night.
One of the monkeys on the opposite cabin.
The large vicious alpha male. They took towels and clothes off all the balconies and you could see underwear over all the bushes and tree branches, quite funny but not really!!! We have to check before we leave the cabin now as I think they came into the resort daily.
